Image Wisely is a joint initiative of the American College of Radiology, Radiological Society of North America, American Society of Radiological Technologists and American Association of Physicists in Medicine.

Case 2: Dose Management in Endovascular Image-Guided Neuro-Interventions

Describes the effective use of collimation and region of interest imaging to reduce dose during fluoroscopy.

Authors: D.R. Bednarek; C. Ionita; S.N. Sweadri Vasan; S. Rudin

Audience: Radiologists, radiologic technologists and medical physicists working with fluoroscopy

This educational activity is free.

Objectives
Upon completion of this case, the participant will be able to:

  1. Recognize the benefit and importance of x-ray beam collimation for reducing stochastic risk
  2. Utilize region of interest (ROI) imaging and demonstrate how it can be used to reduce integral dose
  3. Use collimation and ROI imaging to reduce peak skin dose

CE Credit Information
Image Wisely Radiation Safety Cases have been approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Programs, Inc. (CAMPEP) for MPCEC, Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) for Cat. 1 CME, and by American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) for Cat. A CE. Case 10 (Child-sizing CT Dose) is 1.0 credit hours; all other cases are 0.5 credit hours. All Image Wisely Radiation Safety Cases are designated SA-CME by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) and qualify toward fulfilling requirements for Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Part II: Lifelong Learning and Self-assessment for physicians and medical physicists.

There is no charge to participate in this educational activity. For CE credit tracking and reporting, you will be redirected to the ACR website to log in or register and add the free module to your shopping cart for $0. Step-by-step instructions on accessing the case are available here.
