Image Wisely is a joint initiative of the American College of Radiology, Radiological Society of North America, American Society of Radiological Technologists and American Association of Physicists in Medicine.
There will be two Image Wisely live presentations, open to all attendees, in the Discovery Theater during RSNA 2019:
Image Wisely: Can We Really Stop Shielding Patients?
Rebecca Marsh, PhD, DABR, Cynthia Rigsby, MD, Greg Morrison, Deputy CEO for ASRT
In April of 2019, AAPM released a position statement outlining the science behind removing fetal and gonadal patient shielding from routine clinical practice. Shortly afterwards, this position statement was endorsed by the ACR. In this session, speakers will address questions regarding this substantial change in clinical practice and provide information about related educational and outreach efforts.
Image Wisely: Comparing VQ and CT Radiation Dose When Evaluating PE in Pregnant Patients
Don C. Yoo, MD
The Image Wisely Executive Committee will present a discussion on radiation dose for evaluating Pulmonary Embolism (PE) in pregnant patients. How do VQ and CT compare? This presentation will compare radiation dose to the fetus (similar for VQ and CT) with that to the maternal breast (higher for CT) and weigh the benefits and risks for each.
